Mackenzie Lowe is a senior at Ball State University, graduating in December with a degree in Journalism with a concentration in Graphic Design.
Mackenzie chose Ball State all thanks to her lovely yearbook advisor. She divulged to Mackenzie all the good things that made her proud to be a Ball State alum. Her advisor’s experience inspired her to pursue a career in journalism. Mackenzie’s advisor was a great influence in her life, and they still maintain contact. Mackenzie was in yearbook in high school. She was a designer and went on to be co-editor and chief her senior year of high school. Before discovering year book, she wanted to be a teacher. After joining the yearbook, a light bulb went off. Mackenzie said, “I loved what I was doing. I loved designing.” Mackenzie would love to design for a company or a start-up magazine.
Mackenzie currently coaches volleyball at the Boys and Girls Club. She played volleyball for many years, stating, “I love coaching. Coaching is one of my passions.” She loves being able to combine volleyball and interacting with kids. Being a coach has allowed Mackenzie to keep in touch with the sport she loves while mentoring kids along the way. Mackenzie loves to hang out with friends, especially her sorority sisters. She loves county music and is really into Lee Brice, Jon Pardi, and Josh Turner. She loves watching spooky Netflix shows like the Ratched and The Haunting of Bly Manor. Non-spooky, she loves Friends and Glilmore Girls. She loves to be in nature and really enjoyed spending time in Colorado this quarantine with her family.
Mackenzie is graduating a semester early. She took summer classes and worked hard in high school for this accomplishment. She had internship this semester, which has really opened her eyes into what she would like ot do, that being to design in the field of higher education. Mackenzie described, “That was a nice eye opener going into applying for jobs.” Mackenzie is also a proud sorority woman. She feels as though she has found her lifelong friends that everyone cheesily talks about when they look back on their college days.
AOII means to Mackenzie a strong sisterhood. AOII holds sisters up so that, even on your worst day they would drop everything to be there for you. They are people that would not hesitate to be there for you at 3 a.m. if you needed them. Mackenzie whole-heartedly believes her AOII sisters are people you can trust, rely on, and can see in her future. AOII is, “Everything that I wanted in a home away from home and has made Ball State feel more like a home.”
