Leah Bare is an incoming senior at Ball State University. She is a Public Relations major with a concentration in event planning and a minor in entrepreneurial management.
When looking at universities, Leah had many options. She went on a couple of college visits around Indiana, but didn’t really fall in love with any of the schools. For one visit, she took a tour of Ball State and spent the night in Muncie. Instantly, she knew where she would be spending her next four years. Ball State was the perfect match for Leah, being that Muncie is, “...far enough away to where I could be independent and kind of be on my own, but was also close enough that if I needed anything, I could go home.” Originally, Leah came to Ball State as an Elementary Education major. Although she loved it, she reflected and realized it might not be something she could envision herself doing long term. While reflecting on why she majored in Public Relations, she recalled that in high school, she had a job she absolutely loved. It involved event planning, but she never really thought about it as a major she could pursue at the collegiate level. Once she learned that Ball State had a program for her, she immediately changed her major. Her ultimate goals would be to own and operate an event venue.
Throughout her collegiate career, Leah has inspired ambition in the Kappa Kappa chapter. She founded the now two-year-old position of Creative Director. Kelly Asiala and Julianna Shamel helped Leah create the cabinet position. Leah always loved crafting, and she saw a demand for having an established crafting related position on LC. Leah wanted to get involved in the chapter, but she wasn’t sure what leadership position would fit her. This newly developed position allowed Leah to craft her, “little heart away.”
Leah currently has an Etsy shop. She decided to take the love of crafting and turn it into an entrepreneurial opportunity. Leah described that it doesn’t even feel like she has to work because she loves what she is creating. At first, it made Leah nervous to open an Etsy shop, as she was afraid of the unknown. Since she has been more active on social media, she has been getting more orders and adding new items to her site. One of her best friends mentioned possibly selling and creating sorority banners, so if Leah decides to pursue that idea, look out for them in the future!

Leah just finished up an internship for the Franklin Township Education Foundation. During her time as an intern, she planned 10 different fundraisers. Leah described her tribulations with planning events amidst a pandemic, describing it is harder to plan events when you cannot meet in person and have to add COVID-19 adjustments. She is currently the social media intern for AOII Indianapolis alumni chapter.
Leah’s favorite season hands down is the fall. Leah described, “I wish I could find somewhere to live where it is fall all the time. Everything about it I love. The weather, Halloween, everything.” Her second favorite thing in the world is mac n cheese. Leah loves crafting. Besides her love for food, fall, and crafting, she loves everything pink and glitter, as well as The Office.
Leah’s favorite part about AOII is not only the friendships and connections she has made, but the opportunities that have come from being a Kappa Kappa. She loves AOII not just for the networking, but for personal growth. Being in Kappa Kappa has helped Leah on her journey to becoming more herself. She has been able to step out of her comfort zone and meet new people while taking on leadership roles. Leah is sad to be coming up on her last year of being an active member of Kappa Kappa, especially because this senior year is not going to be similar to those we have experienced in the past. Leah is still very hopeful that it will be a memorable year.
