Sister Spotlight: Cassidy Gearhart

Cassidy Gearhart is an incoming senior at Ball State University. She is majoring in Social Work.

Cassidy decided to attend Ball State because a lot of her friends attended the university. It was the only campus that Cassiyd felt like she was at home. Cassidy described, “It was the only campus I felt comfortable being on. It just felt very secure for me.” Bigger universities with a larger population were more intimidating to Cassidy, so Ball State’s campus was a perfect match for her. Cassidy chose Social Work because she loves helping others and serving those who need it most. Her love languages are acts of service and words of affirmation, which closely aligns to the values of her prospective career. She loves being able to combine her love languages, morals, and values to be able to instill them in a lifelong career that will make her happy.

Cassidy described her biggest accomplishment, by far, was working at Disney World. She was selected for the Disney college program and it made her so proud. The program is not easy to get into, so she felt an overwhelming sense of accomplishment when she realized she was selected. It was the best six months of her life, but Cassidy realized just how much she really missed her sisters and Ball State. Working at Disney World was a huge learning and growing opportunity for her. She had the opportunity to have so many experiences, make so many friends, and work with individuals from all over the world. She loved that she was there to experience the summer, fall, and winter, as she got to celebrate the holidays at Disney World.

In her free time, Cassidy loves watching movies with sisters. She also loves to travel. Cassidy described that her dream vacation would be to visit Italy, as she took Latin in high school so she feels confident in her abilities to navigate through Rome. Cassidy lives in Valparaiso, so she loves taking the short drive to Lake Michigan. Lake Michigan became a place for Cassidy where if she needed to escape and watch the sunset, the proximity made it possible. Cassidy is currently working at a preschool. She loves working with the kids because they are always so positive and want to shower you with love. Because there is so much negativity in the world currently, Cassidy described, it is nice to come to work and see positive faces.

Cassidy chose AOII because she really liked the connection that she had made with everyone through recruitment. Her aunt is an AOII, so she already had that budding connection. Cassidy is currently the Risk Manager for Kappa Kappa. Alongside Kappa Kappa’s President, Steph, and our VP of Chapter Development, Ally, she has been planning activities and having discussions about mental health. Amidst a pandemic, Cassidy has had countless opportunities to create awareness about mental health and spread positivity. Cassidy loves to reflect on where the position first was and where it is now.
