Emma Aaron is a junior at Ball State University. She is a part of PC’18 and has a major in Social Work and minors in ABA and ASD. Growing up, Emma’s life experiences have fostered her passion for her major. Emma has two cousins that were adopted. Both cousins have fetal alcohol syndrome. Growing up around them in that environment was very inspiring, which led her to her majors and minors. In high school, she was also able to go on a mission trip to Haiti. In Haiti, she spent her time at an orphanage right after a hurricane. Seeing all of the damage and destruction that occurred really changed her perspectives and motivated her. In high school, she was also a peer tutor in special education classes. Being able to work with the students and create bonds and friendships was an experience that Emma, “...absolutely loved doing more than anything else.” We are so proud of Emma for being accepted into the social work program last fall. She is also a member of Phi Alpha, a social work honors program.

Emma’s favorite television shows are The Office and Grey's Anatomy. When I asked her about music, she responded, “Taylor Swift is my girl. I’m obsessed with her, it’s bad.” Emma is a devout cat mom to her baby, Milo. Milo takes up quite a bit of time because “he’s a brat.” Milo is very playful and Emma adores him. In her free time, she is always hanging out with Mercedes and Shelby, fellow Kappa Kappa sisters. Whatever they are doing, whether it’s watching a movie or being lazy, they are having a good time. Emma described that last week, her and Shelby went to Mounds State Park. During this time of quarantine and social distancing, Emma described how it was nice to be able to get out of the house and walk the trails.

Emma’s mom graduated from Ball State, which played a factor in deciding which college she would attend. Besides that, Ball State has one of the best social work programs in Indiana behind IUPUI. She loves the location of Ball State and loves the beauty of campus. Emma described, “I felt more confident being here than anywhere else that I have gone.” All of these factors contributed to Emma deciding to spend her collegiate experience at Ball State.

Emma has been at Ball State since freshman year, but went through formal recruitment as a sophomore. She was really nervous to go through recruitment as a sophomore because she felt, “too old.” She was very insecure going through recruitment. The first day she walked into AOII, Emma described that, “There were girls constantly hyping me up and making me feel so loved and appreciated when I didn’t even know their names. Running home from bid day was one of my favorite times. She loved that throughout her AOII journey, she was able to relate to other sisters who had rushed their second year of college. She felt as though during recruitment, she didn’t matter as much because she was a sophomore rushing, not a first year student. During recruitment, Emma described that, “Being told they saw a light in me for the first time, my heart stopped. I think it’s the sweetest thing that anyone could have said to me.” Through AOII, she found her little, Reaghan, and an amazing Greek family. They always get ice cream, Culvers or Puerta’s, or go out to eat.

Her roommate, Shelby, was in the same Pi Chi group as Emma. They got to open their bids and run home together. That was a very special moment for their friendship and they have been inseparable ever since. She loved that throughout her AOII journey, she was able to relate to other sisters who had rushed their second year of college. When Emma is out of quarantine, she is looking forward to going to concerts with Shelby and other sisters.

Currently, she is residing in Muncie for quarantine. She is with her cat and her roommate Shelby. Another sister, Mercedes, has been quarantined with them. They love spending time together catching up on Grey's Anatomy, watching new shoes, and having motivating partners to work on homework with.
