Sister Spotlight: Meghan Newhart

Meghan Newhart is a Sophomore at Ball State University and is a part of PC’18.

Meghan is a public relations major with a concentration in event planning and management with a minor in studio art. Her freshman year, Meghan wanted to be a nurse, but ultimately went as undecided. She had utilized our Career Center and took a bunch of tests, which resulted in public relations. Meghan described that she does not want to be confined to an office one day, so public relations is perfect for her. She wants the availability to work whenever she wanted and would love to do event planning for charity. She really loves to draw and paint, so she incorporated that as her minor with hopes she can incorporate it into her future work. Her favorite part about being a PR major is that she feels as though to be in PR, you have to be personable, which Meghan is. She described that you have to be able to work with everyone, and she loves having the opportunity to reach so many different people through her future work.

Meghan has some big goals coming up in the near future. She is planning on applying to be an associate with the McKinley Avenue Agency. She would love the opportunity to gain real experience with her major. She is also planning on joining Women in Coding, which fellow sister Missy leads.

Meghan is gluten-free and loves it. Her favorite foods are usually meat and potatoes, although she loves to bake! She loves to be in the kitchen baking cookies, brownies, or muffins. She is excited to have added a minor in studio art and is elated to get back into drawing and painting. Meghan described, “I did it a lot in high school and kind of got out of it the past few years. I especially love watercolor painting.”

Meghan has some guilty pleasures. Her top three favorite shows are New Girl, Parks and Rec, and The Office. If she could only choose one to watch, though, she would choose Parks and Rec.

In her free time, she watches t.v., listens to music, or tries to draw and paint. Her current favorite artists are Lorde, Khalid, Post Malone, Lil Uzi Vert, and Jr. Jr. On a typical day, she always starts her morning with coffee and eggs, where she takes the opportunity to plan out her day. Throughout the past months, she has become a planner. Last semester, she really tried to get on a schedule. So far, it has been beneficial and has made it easier for her to get things done. She loves to spend time with her roommates or run errands with her friends. A typical day would be Meghan spending time in her living room with her roommates.

So far this year, Meghan has gotten all A’s on her exams and projects in her hospitality class.

As for AOII, being a legacy, she was hesitant to join. She didn’t see her close connection with her mom being the same as with a sister, yet it was. She realized that there are all different types of people and there is something to love in everyone. Meghan described, “That’s the reason I picked PR and I think that’s the reason I picked AOII.” Meghan explained further, “There’s never a dull moment. You’re always learning something about someone.” She currently is living in a house with sisters. Being so close with sisters has helped her and influenced her AOII journey. She loves being able to come home to sisters, go to recruitment practice and chapters with them, and go out to eat. Meghan said, “Some would think that’s overwhelming, but when you love your sisters you can never get enough of them.” Meghan is currently looking forward to next year because now instead of the three-month summer break, it has turned into five months without regular meetings or in-person contact with sisters.
