Emma Hoffsetz, a Freshman at Ball State University, is a part of PC’19. Formerly, she was an interior design major with a minor in marketing. More recently, she is psychological science major with a minor in infant and toddler specialization. Before, she wanted to work somewhere in the Disney parks Imagineering department. Now, instead of being on the side of actually creating tangible product, she wants to research why people behave the way they do in the environments they are in. That inspired her to switch her major, since Disney’s main audience is for younger children. Emma said, “I’ve always said I don’t care what I’m doing as long as I’m doing something Disney!”
Growing up, Disney has always been a huge part of her life. When she was as young as two, her love for Disney began to grow. Disney has always been a comfort to Emma. Emma has always held a passion for Disney, stating, “I’ve always wanted to work there. That’s just something I’ve always wanted to do.” Her family has helped foster Emma’s love for Disney, so over the years she has visited Disney World numerous times. This past summer, she even had the opportunity to visit Disneyland in California! Emma spoke whimsically of Disney, describing that Disney has saved her life, therefore she wants to put her life back into Disney.
Emma is a loving plant Mom. When I asked her to choose one favorite type of plant, she just couldn’t do it! Emma described that although she loves all plants, she has numerous cacti.
Emma is a creative mind. If it has to do with art, she’s all over it. She loves music, her favorite artists being The Weeknd and Harry Styles, yet she keeps an open mind. She loves makeup and is always experimenting with a new look. Anything that has to do with painting, coloring, or drawing, she is up for the fun. Emma was a dancer for ten years. After she was done dancing, she went on to teach young children to dance. Her GG, Rachel Turner, recently got her into yoga. She considers herself a, “potential yogi.” She described her style as clothing, “you probably shouldn’t wear in Indiana.”
Emma loves to workout. She explained how not only does she love fitness, but she also loves to eat healthy. Emma explained that growing up, her mother encouraged her family to eat really well. They always ate organic and her mother always had prepared home-cooked meals.
Right now, Emma has a few guilty pleasures. One television show is The Mandalorian, although she is sad that the new season has yet to come out. Emma began to giggle as she described watching Love Island. Between her laughter, Emma said, “It’s awful, yet you won’t be able to stop watching it.” Currently, she is also watching LEGO Masters with her father. It’s a television show where individuals compete in LEGO building. Emma isn’t very tech savvy, though. Besides these shows, she mostly prefers to do activities such as puzzles or family games. In the background, though, there is always a Disney movie on!
As for AOII, Emma says she has no regrets and it’s the best thing she has ever done. In the beginning, she never saw herself as a sorority girl. Signing up for formal recruitment was a last minute thing. She wanted to find new friends and people to connect with, yet she was scared out of her mind during formal recruitment. The first room on the first day of recruitment Emma walked through was AOII’s. She was terrified, yet the fear immediately evaporated. She loved that everyone was so nice, yet so different. Emma described that every girl she talked to was very different from the last, yet the women were cohesive, like a family. When I asked Emma to discuss AOII, she lovingly explained, “The love is there, 110%. It’s in everything we do. It’s beautiful.” She explained that it’s such a powerful feeling to know that she didn’t know the women of Kappa Kappa immediately, yet they genuinely wanted to learn about her and give her love. When she described her Greek family, she explained her big, Bri Hendrix, is, “the perfect big for me.” She holds a lot of love for her Greek fam – they are a light in her life.
Emma has made beautiful friendships in her PC. She feels blessed and thankful for how many people she has gotten to know.
Her journey is just beginning in AOII, and we are so excited to watch her continue to grow.
