Alpha Omicron Pi was founded on January 2, 1897, however, Alpha Omicron Pi celebrates Founder's Day on December 8. They had found that it was hard to get members to celebrate during the beginning of January, so in 1921 the founding date was officially changed to December 8.
What does celebrating Founder's Day mean to the members of Alpha Omicron Pi?
For many, the obvious, is celebrating the amazing fraternity that bonds us closely together. It's about being able to find an organization that values resonate deeply with us. It's about walking into a room and immediately being hit with a wave of warmth and kindness when sisters are near. It's about servicing others, supporting philanthropy, and celebrating the bond that glues us together.
A member of Alpha Omicron Pi cannot reflect upon Founder's Day without thinking of our founders: Stella, Jessie, Helen, and Elizabeth.
Stella was the first president of the Alpha chapter, as well as the first international AOII president. She was also elected historian of AOII for life.
Helen gave AOII its constitution and bylaws. She promoted the expansion of AOII chapters and was the third national president of AOII.
Elizabeth established AOII's Central Office. She had a big heart and was always lending a hand and helping others.
Jessie was a crusader for any cause she believed in. She was a philanthropist and a leader.
Together, these women helped establish Alpha Omicron Pi, the organization that many of us keep close to our hearts.
The Kappa Kappa Chapter of Alpha Omicron Pi will be having their Founder's Day celebration on January 09, 2020. The celebration will be at 11:30 A.M. at Knights of Columbus. Alumni can RSVP by February 05, 2020 to heebbing@bsu.edu.
